Tribal Governments Have Begun to Tax and Regulate Oil, Gas, Lithium, Copper, Nickle, and Graphite Development Through Tribal Codes, Ordinances, and Constitutions
The Chickamauga Nation has used the following document to create Sovereign Tribal Statutes and Codes to allow it to participate in the taxation of minerals as well as the regulatory language to control development on all lands under the jurisdiction of The Chickamauga Nation in accordance to McGirt v. Oklahoma 2020
In accordance with McGirt, the Tribe now has legal jurisdiction to enforce our Sovereign Tribal Statutes and Codes on the East Side of the Mississippi River South of the Ohio River, East of the Appellation Trail, North of Atlanta and Birmingham and West of the Mississippi River in parts of Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.
