SAINT Louis April the 14 th AD 1819

Agreeably to your instructions, I have surveyed, measured, marked, and established, the Quapaw and Cherokee Boundary lines; the first from the Little 38 due 38 to the Saline creek a branch of the Ouchin 39 River) the second from the mouth of Point Remove creek, on Budwells old place, to White River, crossing Cataunga Mountain, or hill, which is the first hill above Shields ferry on White River, Agreeable to the treaties which have been made, with the Quapaw and Cherokee} Indians. You herewith recieve the field notes of the surveys of these Indian boundary lines, and a sketch, of that yart of the Country, on which the lines are laid down; 40 the Cherokee boundary was not actually connected with the surveys of the public lands; 41 but the Surveyors who are surveying into Townships & Sections, the Country bounded by that line, are instructed to connect the surveys to it in many places; You will also, herewith, recieve my account, against the United States, for Surveying, measuring, marking & establishing those lines, and for defraying, all expenses attending the execution of that work. When the necessary trouble and expense of doing that business, is taken into consideration, my account, I presume, will be found reasonable an just.-· The Cherokee boundary was surveyed twice (as may be seen by the field notes) first by a random, .and then a true line. It is of some importance to me, that I obtain my com[pensation] in a short time, as I have been at much expense [in] the business.
