Fakes, Frauds, Wannabees, and Outaluck Indians – The Cherokee Edition

The Chickamauga Nation

Congress and Senate

The Bureau of Indian Affairs of the Department of Interior has its collective head so far up the rear of the Casino Tribes of Oklahoma and North Carolina, that they think the methane smell is actually a fine Parisian au de toilet.

In 1902, the Congress of the United States received a request from the Oklahoma Casino Nation for self-termination and later in the year obliged the request with Congressional Termination.

In 1906, the Congress of the United States additionally terminated the Oklahoma Casino Nation with the Curtis Act.

In 1919, the Congress of the United States received a request from the North Carolina Casino Nation for self-termination and in 1924, obliged the request with Congressional Termination.

The Congress of the United States has NEVER Re-Recognized either of these former tribes by an Act of Congress. Therefore they are still TERMINATED and DO NOT EXIST but somehow take money from the Taxpayers of the United States. Maybe the GAO should investigate this matter.

‍

According to Lee Fleming’s dear friend and cohort, Kent Carter, these tribes are Fakes, Frauds, Wannabees, and Outaluck Indians since they do not have the history to go through the Federal Recognition process called Part 83 of 1994 since neither has had a consistent government since 1900.  The reason they do not have a consistent government is that their governments were terminated and do not exist according the federal statute.

We wish to thank Kent Carter for his towing the Casino Nations of Oklahoma and North Carolina rope in his riveting and world renowned Wantabes and Outalucks: Searching for Indian Ancestors in Federal Records, article. The Archived copy is located at "Wantabes and Outalucks: Searching for Indian Ancestors in Federal Records," Chronicles of Oklahoma 66, No 1, Spring 1988: 94-104.‍
