We must begin to learn that we wrestle not with flesh and blood, things seen, but with the things which are not seen, the things that seek to kill, steal, and destroy.
As a descendant of the Original Peoples of North America and Mesoamerica, I am taught by the hundreds of generations before me about the reality of the unseen. Here on Turtle Island, long before Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, my ancestors experienced the Creator who Created the world. Long before Moses or David, the Pharisees or Sadducees, or even the Disciples, my ancestors knew and thanked the Creator for the Creation.
The Original Peoples of the Americas knew there was an unseen world that influences the seen world. The Original Peoples' relationship with the Creation and the Creator instilled a sense of thankfulness and humility for every aspect of the Creation. We thanked the Creator for water, for the flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruits, for the trees, the animals which we ate as well as those that guarded us. We are thankful and remain so because of the teachings and traditions passed down across the millennia.
When we battle with things that directly impact our lives, such as people, events, hunger, or even surplus, our first move should always be toward thanking the Creator. Second, we must look for the items that come from the unseen so we know how to thank the Creator and battle against the unseen things that afflict us.
These teachings concerning the unseen have been passed down to our people since the beginning of time and will continue to be passed down to our people until the end of time.
