When you read U.S. government documents, make sure to remember a few interpretation skills.

  1. Make sure to look at the names of the persons in the documents
  2. Make sure to look at the locations in the documents
  3. Make sure to look at the government in the documents

Additionally, how to know if you are reading about Chickamauga. The following names are used interchangeably by the United States Government for Chickamauga.

  1. Any variation of the spelling of Chickamauga
  2. The term Lower Town or Lower Town Cherokee
  3. The Term Red Stick Cherokee
  4. The Cherokee Nation when dealing with Spain
  5. The Cherokee Nation on treaties in which all signatories are Chickamauga
  6. The Arkansas Cherokee
  7. The Western Cherokee
  8. The Old Settlers
  9. The hostile Cherokees
  10. The rogue Cherokees

As you can tell, the research has a lot of interpretation in it, but after reading most of what will be posted, you will see, we basically are only posting items dealing with the Chickamauga as refered to by their various names.

It is easy to identify Chickamauga from Cherokee by location.

  1. No Cherokee lived in the Southeast Woodlands prior to the 1670s
  2. Only Chickamauga Citizens lived West of the Mississippi River before 1839, no exceptions.
