Conference Of The Chiefs Of The Cherokee Nation With The Secretary Of War

The Chickamauga Nation

EDITORIAL: Again the United States government is lazy and calls the Chickamauga Chief and Warriors "cherokee." The names listed are Bloody Fellow, King Fisher,
Disturber, and the Prince, all are Chickamauga Chiefs. The Chickamauga were NOT cherokee, they spoke the Cherokee Trade Language, but they were NOT cherokee. The ethnicity of the Chickamauga as Mound Builders in the Southeast is NOT the same as the ethnicity of the cherokee who are from the Great Lakes region between Lakes Huron and Erie and have NO ties to the Mound Culture or the Southeast Ceremonial Religious Complex as their religion. The cherokee abandoned their traditional religion (whatever it was) when they mostly converted to Christianity prior to being kicked out of the Iroquoian Confederacy in the 1670s.

[A journal of a Conference of the Chiefs of the Cherokee Nation with the Secretary of War.] This is the transcript of Knox's meeting with the Cherokee chiefs who came to Philadelphia with a series of demands, particularly regarding white intruders in their territory and increased annuities for ceded lands.

notable phrase - We remember the talks of our forefathers who told us of the first coming of the white people over the great waters
that they were few in number, and settled on the lands of the red people they have now become so numerous as to be able to overpower them but we still expect we shall have justice done to us.
