Sacred soil holding the lives and memories of our people who came before us and died to preserve our way of life are buried in the grounds of the Arkansas River Valley. No different than those who are buried in the sacred grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, who fought for their nation and are honored and remembered.
Before the current US Constitution was ratified (1789), before there was a Louisiana Purchase (1803), before there was an Arkansas Territory (1819), the Chickamauga people purposefully came to the Arkansas River Valley (1770s), to establish a life for themselves and their descendants.
Our men, women, and children are buried along the hills, valleys, fields, streams, and forests of the Arkansas River Valley. They remain, still protecting and serving their sacred calling to live in harmony with nature. Their duty to protect and serve their nation has never faded; they occupy the land where their families are buried, preserving the dignity of their lives for all eternity.
Those Chickamauga who are interned in the sacred burial sites in the Arkansas River Valley are held in the same reverence and honor as those men and women buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.
Why has the state of Arkansas made it a priority to continue the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Chickamauga people in the state of Arkansas?
We have requested a meeting with the Governor and the Department of Corrections to discuss these issues, but at this time, they have not responded to our request.
