Learning Our History Together
The "Cherokee" abandoned the "Overhill" areas and moved to Georgia and left it to the Whites and Creeks in the the 1780s after it was destroyed. It was eventually rebuilt by the Chickamauga in the 1780s and this is the depiction of the rebuilt site.
There were no "Cherokee" living in Tokouo once they abandoned Chota. There were only Chickamauga living in the area and because they spoke the Cherokee Trade Language, they were called Cherokee.
